... Read moreTransitioning to eating only once a day is a significant change, especially for someone used to frequent meals throughout the day like many Filipino moms accustomed to hearty, multiple-dinner traditions. I’ve experienced similar shifts, and it requires a mental and physical adjustment. When I first reduced my meals, I noticed how my body began to respond differently. The feeling of being "busog" (full) all day was replaced by a more mindful approach to hunger and satiety cues. It reminded me that often, our eating habits are influenced by family traditions and emotional ties to food, not just hunger. The phrase 'I woke up full, I ate, I don't remember what hungry was' truly resonates, as it highlights how constant eating can dull our perception of true hunger. Adapting to eating once a day helped me reconnect with my body's real needs. However, it’s important to ensure that the single meal provides adequate nutrition—balancing carbs, proteins, fats, and plenty of vegetables. Missing second and third dinners that used to fill the household isn’t easy either, as food is often a central part of Filipino family bonding. I also noticed how friends and family sometimes comment on weight changes, expressing concern about getting thin. This social feedback can be challenging to navigate emotionally, but it’s part of the process when changing lifestyle habits. Overall, moving to one proper dinner a day can promote weight loss and a healthier relationship with food if done mindfully and with adequate nutrient intake. It’s a journey that requires patience, self-compassion, and sometimes, a little nostalgia for mama’s cooking. For anyone considering this shift, I recommend tracking your food intake initially and consulting with a healthcare provider to maintain balance and well-being.
