Sleepy Girl Nightcap Mocktail 💤💤💤

So I finally made @Ashleymac’s nighttime mocktail and here is how it went!

A quick Walmart run later, I had the ingredients because my sleep had been degrading so much over the last two weeks.

With a glass of ice, I poured about 8oz of tart cherry juice and swirled to chill.

For the magnesium supplement, I wanted to find the flavor free - but all they was Raspberry Lemon 🍋 I started with stirring in the minimum dose recommended and it said slowly increase to 2 teaspoons over time. I was worried about the flavor clashing but it’s actually a delish blend!

I then topped off my glass with some water, since I was out of seltzer.

So - to recap…

1/2 tsp of magnesium : 2 parts tart cherry juice : 1 part water

So I started drinking this at 7:45pm while wrapping up for the night. By 8:10 I felt utterly exhausted, but in a good way (if that makes sense) and started to yawn. I did not expect this to work this fast!!

It is now 8:25 and I am in bed, and can barely keep my eyes open. (Placing this in my drafts to give the next day feedback) Goodnight!!!

WOW! That was the best sleep I have had in a LONG time. I don’t feel tired, or sleepy like I have with other sleep aids. I woke up twice last night (a lot less than normal for me - usually 3/5 times a night) and went right back to sleep effortlessly.

They also contain compounds that can reduce inflammation, which might contribute to a more restful state. It's like a gentle nudge for your body to unwind naturally. Then there's magnesium. My preferred magnesium supplement is the raspberry-lemon flavored one I mentioned, which actually blends really well with the cherry. Magnesium is a real unsung hero for sleep. It plays a role in regulating neurotransmitters that are directly involved in sleep. It helps calm your nervous system, relax muscles, and can even help reduce anxiety, all of which are essential for falling and staying asleep. I found that starting with a minimum dose and slowly increasing it, as recommended, was the best approach for me to find what worked without any digestive upset. Now, about the recipe itself and some tweaks I've discovered. While I initially used water because I was out of seltzer, I've since tried it with sparkling water, and it adds a lovely fizz! It really turns it into a luxurious 'NIGHTCAP Mocktail'. If you're not a fan of the tartness, a tiny drizzle of maple syrup or a slice of orange can balance the flavor without adding too much sugar.
