Tips on how to AVOID Theme Park Meltdowns

Going to theme parks are already a challenge with long lines, crowds, wait times, and expensive merchandise.

Here are some tips that were useful for me and my family during our trip to Universal Studios Orlando.

1. Bring a wagon stroller (Got Jeep Evolve $249.99).

2. Bring their tablets or phones. While waiting in long line, wait times for rides, or down times pull out the tablets to keep them occupied and keep you sane lol.

3. Buy a refillable souvenir popcorn bucket. A great and cost effective snack idea to keep hunger away. They have theme popcorn. We had Hulk Green and Minions Banana Popcorn.

4. Buy light up toys at Walmart or Target prior going to the park. Temper tantrums free guarantee.

... Read moreAfter our last Universal Studios Orlando trip, I realized just how crucial planning is to truly enjoy a theme park day with kids. Beyond the fantastic tips I shared earlier, like bringing our trusty Jeep Evolve stroller for weary legs and keeping them entertained with screens during those seemingly endless lines, I've gathered even more strategies that saved our sanity. One thing I learned quickly is that hunger and thirst are meltdown magnets! While our Hulk theme popcorn and Minions Banana Popcorn buckets were a huge hit, don't underestimate the power of a good water bottle. We now bring insulated ones and refill at water stations. Packing a small bag with non-perishable, easy-to-eat snacks like granola bars, fruit pouches, or crackers is a game-changer. It means fewer stops, less money spent, and immediate relief when hunger strikes – a lifesaver when you're stuck in a queue for a popular ride! Another big one for managing those infamous long waits and preventing overstimulation is pacing yourselves. It's so tempting to try and do *everything*, but that's a recipe for disaster. We now make a loose plan, prioritizing a few must-do rides or shows, and then stay flexible. Starting our day early helps us hit popular attractions before the biggest crowds. And instead of pushing through until everyone is exhausted, we schedule a mid-day break. Sometimes it's just finding a quiet bench, grabbing a snack, or even heading back to the hotel for a quick swim and nap if we're staying close by. This rest rejuvenates everyone and makes the evening much more pleasant. Don't forget the essentials for comfort! Comfortable walking shoes for both adults and kids are non-negotiable. My feet (and my kids'!) thanked me endlessly after logging miles across the park. Layering clothing is also smart – mornings can be cool, but the Florida sun can get intense. Speaking of sun, religiously applying sunscreen and bringing hats are crucial. A sunburned, tired child is a guaranteed meltdown waiting to happen. And for those inevitable moments when things do go south, having a 'cool-down' strategy helps. We identify a relatively quiet spot on the park map where we can retreat if someone gets overwhelmed. Sometimes just five minutes away from the noise and crowds can reset the mood. Also, leveraging the park's official app is a must! It provides real-time wait times, show schedules, and even mobile ordering for food, which can drastically cut down on standing in lines. We found that letting the kids pick a character to meet or watching a street performance offered a wonderful break from ride lines and added a different kind of magic to our day. Remember, it's about making memories, not just ticking off rides, and these little strategies make all the difference!
