Getting back into a hobby I loved.
Told myself thus year I would get back into painting. So when I went into storage I found so much old art.
It's incredible how life gets busy, and sometimes the things we love the most get pushed to the back burner – or in my case, the back of a dusty storage unit! This year, I made a conscious decision to reclaim some of that lost joy and dive back into a hobby that once filled my days with color and creativity: painting. My journey actually started with a big task I'd been putting off for ages: CLEANING OUT MY STORAGE. You know how it goes – boxes piled high, forgotten treasures lurking in the shadows. As I painstakingly went through each bin, sifting through old memories and miscellaneous items, I stumbled upon a box marked simply, 'ART.' My heart did a little flutter. Inside, nestled beneath layers of bubble wrap, were my old paintbrushes, tubes of dried acrylics (a few still salvageable!), and a stack of canvases, some pristine, others bearing the faint outlines of long-abandoned ideas. Seeing those canvases and brushes felt like reuniting with an old friend. It brought back so many memories of late nights spent creating, the smell of paint, and the sheer satisfaction of bringing an idea to life on canvas. It was the sign I needed. I realized how much I missed that creative outlet, that unique way of expressing myself. For so long, I'd told myself I didn't have time, or that it wasn't practical. But that moment of discovery changed everything. If you're like me and have a hobby you once loved but let slip away, I highly encourage you to go on your own 'treasure hunt.' Maybe it's in your attic, a forgotten drawer, or even just a corner of your mind. There’s something incredibly therapeutic about reconnecting with a past passion. It’s not just about the activity itself; it’s about nurturing a part of yourself that might have been dormant. It's a wonderful way to de-stress, explore new ideas, and simply create for the joy of it, not for perfection. Now, armed with some newly acquired paints and a renewed spirit, I'm excited to start a new Project. I'm even thinking of tackling some of those half-finished pieces I found. It's not about being a professional artist; it's about the process, the mindfulness, and the sheer delight of making something with my own hands again. What forgotten hobby are you hoping to get back into?
