Visiting Orta San Giulio truly felt like stepping into a storybook. The peaceful ambiance combined with the quaint cobblestone streets makes wandering the town a delight. I found the magical island of San Giulio particularly captivating, with its historic basilica and tranquil setting offering a perfect spot for quiet reflection or photography. One of the highlights was taking a boat ride on Lake Orta, where the clear waters perfectly mirror the surrounding mountains, creating stunning views at every turn. Unlike the more crowded lakes in Italy, Lake Orta’s charm lies in its calm and unspoiled atmosphere, making it ideal for travelers seeking a romantic and leisurely escape. Local cafes along the lakeshore serve delicious Italian fare, and I especially enjoyed tasting regional dishes in intimate settings overlooking the water. For those who love nature, gentle hiking trails around the lake offer spectacular vistas without the intensity of more challenging mountain treks. Overall, Orta San Giulio on Lake Orta is truly one of Italy’s best-kept secrets—romantic, serene, and rich in natural beauty and culture. It’s a destination I’d recommend to anyone looking to experience authentic Italian charm away from the usual tourist crowds.
