How much I spent traveling 2025 part 1

Now for everyone’s favorite topic: Money!!!

4 days in Tenerife with a friend: $571

9 days in Morocco on a group trip: $2684.21

6hr layover in Rome: $64.40

6 days in Denmark: $1375.06

4 days in Savannah GA: $936.35

(bday trip with a friend I paid)

5 days in Denver for work/pride: $364.15

24hr layover in NYC: $251

4 days solo in Dominican Republic: $2020

I used a lot of points this year to fly to Europe, Denver etc and used points for my hotel in Savannah but this is how much I spent on each trip this year!

Where do you think I splurged or saved?

Follow to see where else I when and how much I spend !

2/23 Edited to

... Read moreTravel budgeting is an eye-opening exercise, especially when you break down costs by destination and trip type. For example, shorter trips like a 6-hour layover in Rome can surprisingly add up, even with limited time to explore. From my experience, using reward points strategically for flights and accommodations can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses — like my trips to Europe and Savannah where points covered many costs. When planning a group trip, such as the 9-day adventure in Morocco, expenses tend to rise due to group activities, guided tours, and shared accommodations that may not always be the cheapest option. On the other hand, solo trips, like my 4 days in the Dominican Republic, can lead to splurging on experiences or dining since there’s more flexibility and personal preference driving spending. Also noteworthy are trips to U.S. cities, where costs can vary dramatically — I spent about $936 in Savannah for a birthday celebration and only $364 in Denver, where the trip was partly work-related. Layovers turned mini-trips, like 24 hours in NYC, can tempt travelers into spending more, with limited time to sightsee but plenty of eating and shopping opportunities. Using travel points not just on flights but also on hotels can maximize savings, a method I actively use. It’s critical to track spending meticulously to identify where you splurge versus save. For example, budgeting for meals, transportation, and souvenirs helps keep overall expenses manageable. Whether you’re a solo adventurer, a group traveler, or mixing work with leisure, a clear spending record and strategic use of points enrich the travel experience while keeping finances under control. Planning ahead and understanding destination costs can turn even lavish trips into feasible travel opportunities.
