Making Sheer Khurma for Eid

Eid is special for us in so many ways. It’s a time filled with delicious food, family gatherings, exchanging Eidi, and so much more. I like to prepare for Eid in advance, especially when it comes to food. One of the highlights for my family and me is enjoying Sheer Khurma after returning from prayers, so prepping it the night before is a must. Here’s how I make it:

Sheer Khurma Recipe

Ingredients:

• 5–6 cups milk

• 75g vermicelli

• ½ cup sugar

• 1 tsp cardamom powder

• 3–4 tbsp ghee or butter

• 15 sliced almonds

• 15 chopped pistachios

• 15 chopped cashews

• Rose petals (for garnish)

Method:

1. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and roast the dry nuts over medium flame for about 2 minutes, then set them aside.

2. Add 2 more tbsp ghee, break the vermicelli into small pieces, and roast until golden brown (about 2–3 minutes), then remove from heat.

3. Pour in the milk, add sugar, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat for 10 minutes.

4. Add the roasted vermicelli and cook, stirring continuously, for another 10 minutes or until fully softened.

5. Stir in the roasted dry fruits and cardamom powder.

6. Garnish with rose petals and serve hot!
