That's why I was on a mission to create a guilt-free, protein-packed version, and let me tell you, these air fryer protein mozzarella sticks are a total game-changer! They hit all the marks: crispy, cheesy, and packed with protein – specifically, an impressive 29 grams for just 245 calories! This makes them absolutely perfect for a post-workout treat, an afternoon pick-me-up when hunger strikes, or even a light evening snack when those savory cravings hit. Seriously, no more feeling guilty after indulging in something delicious! The secret really lies in the coating. Instead of traditional breadcrumbs, we're using protein chips, which not only add a fantastic crunch but also a significant protein boost. I personally love reaching for Quest Tortilla Style Protein Chips in the Nacho Cheese flavor. They add an incredible savory kick and extra depth of flavor that really elevates these cheese sticks. But don't be afraid to experiment with other protein chip flavors you enjoy! First, you'll want to get your light string cheese sticks ready. Then, for the coating, I whisk one egg, often adding a splash of 100% pure avocado oil along with some Italian seasoning and garlic powder directly into the egg yolk. This step is crucial for building that delicious, savory crust. After giving the cheese sticks a good dip in the seasoned egg, I roll them generously in the crushed protein chips, making sure they're fully coated for maximum crispiness.
