... Read moreAs someone who has embraced natural curly hair for years, I understand both the challenges and joys that come with maintaining beautiful, healthy curls. Transitioning to natural hair can be a transformative experience, especially for black women who want to celebrate their heritage and unique hair texture. One of the key lessons I've learned is the importance of moisture. Curly hair tends to be drier because natural oils have a harder time traveling down the hair shaft. To keep my curls hydrated, I regularly use deep conditioning treatments and leave-in conditioners that replenish moisture without weighing hair down. Products with natural ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera work wonders for me. Additionally, protective styling is crucial in reducing breakage. Styles like twists, braids, and buns protect my hair ends from environmental damage and reduce manipulation, which helps retain length over time. But it’s also important to give your scalp care attention, as a healthy scalp encourages better hair growth. I use gentle scalp massages with oils to stimulate blood flow. Detangling can be a daunting task for curly hair. I always detangle when my hair is wet and saturated with conditioner, using a wide-tooth comb or my fingers to minimize breakage. Patience and a gentle touch go a long way. Most importantly, embracing your curls is about mindset. Feeling proud of your natural hair and learning how to care for it properly helps boost confidence. Joining communities and hashtags like #curlyhair and #naturalhair can provide support and inspire you with new styles and product recommendations. Every curl pattern is unique, and learning to work with your natural texture is a journey worth embarking on. Celebrate your hair’s natural beauty and authenticity—you deserve it.

how i became conservative as a Black woman.
i didn’t grow into these beliefs by accident. they were shaped slowly, prayer by prayer, Scripture by Scripture, conviction by conviction. the closer i walked with God, the clearer my values became. faith taught me that truth is not something we invent to feel better, it is something we submit to e
