Honest Book Review God of Malice

Diving deeper into my experience with Rina Kent's 'God of Malice,' I wanted to expand on some points that really stuck with me, especially for those of you who might be considering picking it up or have already read it and want to compare notes! You know how sometimes a book just has you on the fence, almost tempting you to hit that 'Did Not Finish' button? That's exactly where I found myself with 'God of Malice' for quite a while. It wasn't because of the dark romance elements itself – I absolutely adore a good dark romance aesthetic when it's done right – but more about how certain aspects of the story and characters unfolded. Let's talk about the characters, particularly Killian Carson and Glyndon King. Killian, for me, was definitely the highlight. He embodied that intense, possessive, yet somehow alluring dark romance hero that I often look for. His motivations felt clear, and his presence drove much of the story's tension. I was completely invested in his journey and what he would do next. However, Glyn, our heroine, was where I really struggled. I know heroines in dark romance often start in a vulnerable position, but for me, Glyn often felt less like a developing character and more like a plot device. While the moment she stood up to Lan was fantastic and gave a glimpse of her potential, I kept waiting for more of that fire that never quite fully ignited for me. It’s a common challenge in this genre to balance the dominant hero with a heroine who still feels strong and capable, and in 'God of Malice,' that balance felt a bit off. The cover of 'God of Malice,' featuring Killian's face, really sets a specific tone, hinting at the brooding, intense story within. As 'Legacy of Gods Book One,' it promises a saga, and I think that anticipation might have also played into my expectations. When it comes to the plot, I mentioned feeling it was predictable and the ending rushed. For a dark romance, I often crave those shocking twists and turns that keep me guessing, and unfortunately, I saw many of the major plot points coming a mile away. The rush at the end left me wanting more resolution or a deeper exploration of the consequences of their actions. It felt like certain threads were tied up too quickly, without the emotional impact they deserved. Regarding the 'spice' – oh yes, the spice! I rated it a 4/5, and it definitely delivered on intensity and passion. Rina Kent is known for her steamy scenes, and 'God of Malice' was no exception. The chemistry between Killian and Glyn was palpable in those moments, which sometimes made me wish the rest of their relationship dynamics had felt as compelling. For those who read dark romance for the explicit and passionate encounters, this book certainly doesn't hold back. Overall, while 'God of Malice' has some strong points, especially with its compelling hero and steamy scenes, I found myself wishing for a more robust heroine and a less predictable, more fleshed-out plot, especially with it being the start of the 'Legacy of Gods' series. It's a book that sparks a lot of discussion, and I'd love to hear if any of you felt similarly or had a completely different take!
