You know, just thinking about tuition, you're sweating because of the "educational inflation" of schools in Thailand, ~ 5% a year, some of them almost 10% or more!!

Every parent wants you to go to a good school, a good society, right? Some people give up, send you to an international school or a famous school, until they have to sweat every month.

But wait! In the view of financial planners, throwing out of the scoop like this may unconsciously become a long-term "child harm"!!

As a financial planner and mother of two with both Thai and international schools, I want to say that we need to balance our family's "dream school" and "money in our pockets."

Let's look at these numbers as a rough guideline, because I always emphasize that personal finance is not fixed.

The safe proportion is the total child expense burden (e.g., tuition, extra tuition, activity expenses) must not exceed 10-15% of the total family income.

- If the family income is 100,000 baht / month: The tuition budget should be 10,000 to 15,000 baht / month, which rate may be suitable for some private or bilingual schools.

- If the family income is 250,000 baht / month: Gradually move the budget to 25,000 - 37,500 baht / month, which many families have already started looking for international schools.

If we overpay, it means we're already pulling in money for the future and other aspects of family security.

1) If we pay for tuition and still save, whether it's family savings or retirement of parents and still have an emergency reserve, it's important to pay for tuition and not stress - not too much.

2) If we start pulling in other savings to pay for tuition and start spending on the month-to-month and paying for your tuition, start worrying, fear of hitting other expenses - start tightening.

3) If we stop saving money, savings for our children, retirement savings, reserves are used up, especially if we have to borrow or swipe a credit card around, use it as a spin or spend money that shouldn't be touched - too much.
