I used to do this for years without realizing what it was. It started when I was a kid and it was something I did when I was bored or when I needed to escape into better life scenarios. As I got older, it became something I genuinely enjoyed. The dopamine made it comforting, and eventually it turned into a habit I relied on, especially at night to fall asleep or anytime my mind wasn’t occupied. I never saw it as a problem until I started learning more about psychology, and neuroscience and I realized how often I was living in imagined futures instead of the life in front of me. I also began to see how fantasy had quietly become a refuge, something that once helped me survive, but wasn’t meant to replace presence or trust in God. Rewiring this hasn’t been instant, but it’s been intentional.
