When I chose “findingmelissa,” as my username was the story I thought I was telling was about self-discovery. The idea was that over the years I would peel back layers, understanding myself more, grow, and figure out who I am. I realize now that this whole time God was trying to find me. The Bible flips the narrative of “discover your true self” and I started to understand that we don’t fully understand ourselves until we encounter the One who made us. We discover who we really are when our lives finally come into alignment with God. Those years of my life were a personal journey inward but they were also a pursuit happening from the outside in. They were part of a relationship being initiated by Him. What’s beautiful about my username now is that it unintentionally carries both meanings at the same time. I still read it like a journey of self-discovery but it now became a testimony without me even changing the name. The story of a person being found by God. Finding Melissa is the story of what happened when God kept finding me until I finally stopped running.

... Read moreMy faith journey has been deeply shaped by the realization that God is continually seeking us, even before we decide to seek Him. This amazing truth resonates with the poem "Hounds of Heaven" by Francis Thompson, which beautifully illustrates God's persistent pursuit of our souls. It's not just about us searching for meaning or identity; it's about God actively reaching out and pursuing a relationship with each of us. This perspective changed how I viewed my own path of self-discovery. The initial idea of "finding oneself" can sometimes feel like a solo struggle, but understanding God's pursuit adds a profound dimension to the experience. It reassures that we are not alone in our quest to find meaning or direction in life. Rather than wandering aimlessly, our story intertwines with a divine narrative where God patiently and lovingly draws us closer. I've found that many people resonate with this dynamic, particularly in times of uncertainty or personal growth. When life's layers seem complex or confusing, remembering that God is actively seeking us can provide comfort and clarity. It encourages us to surrender the pressure to "figure everything out" on our own and embrace a relationship that reveals our true identity over time. This ongoing pursuit has influenced how I see my faith journey: it's both an internal transformation and a response to God's initiative. It reminds me that spiritual growth is not a checklist but a relationship-based adventure. By embracing that God is the one who ultimately finds us, we can let go of running and start living aligned with our created purpose. For those on a similar path, I recommend reflecting on moments when you felt unexpectedly guided or comforted as signs of God's presence pursuing you. Engaging with scripture and community that emphasize God's pursuit can strengthen this understanding. It shifts the narrative from self-sufficiency to one of grace, acceptance, and continuous discovery with God at the center.
