The older I get, the more I realize the cross is really about surrender. Jesus calls people to let the old version of themselves die, the version of you that insists on controlling everything. And that sounds scary at first, but the reason that death happens is so something new can grow. Just like the resurrection followed the cross, new life begins when the old self steps down. The life we try to protect is usually the one keeping us trapped. I know it was for me. But when you give it to God, you actually find the life you were created for.
The Pastor I listened to was @Josh Howerton and @Lakepointe Church they have unknowingly played a big part in my learning and surrendering.

Reflecting on the journey of faith, I've found that surrendering is not about giving up but about transformation. The phrase 'Jesus never lowered the bar' is a powerful reminder that the standards of faith remain high because they are meant to elevate us, not to discourage. When we try to control every aspect of our lives, we often find ourselves trapped in patterns of fear and resistance. However, embracing surrender allows the old self—marked by control and resistance—to die so we can experience resurrection in our daily lives. I remember when I first grappled with the idea of letting go. It felt daunting, like stepping into the unknown without a safety net. But through sermons by Pastor Josh Howerton at Lakepointe Church, I began to understand that surrender is actually about trust—trusting that God’s plan for us is greater than our own. This trust opens the door to renewal of the mind and spirit, enabling us to live out the life we were truly meant for, free from the burdens of our old selves. This process of surrender is deeply personal and ongoing. It requires daily commitment to let go of fears and to embrace the hope that comes with resurrection. The cross symbolizes not just suffering but the promise of new beginnings. By following Jesus’ example, we don't lower our expectations; instead, we rise to meet them with a renewed mindset and heart. This journey has transformed how I view faith—moving from a strict adherence to rules to a vibrant relationship with God that brings deep peace and purpose. If you are on a similar path, know that surrender is a courageous step toward freedom. Embrace the challenge, lean into the support of your faith community, and allow yourself to be renewed. The life you find on the other side of surrender is not only authentic but abundantly fulfilling.
