The weight of an invisible burn
I used to think burnout was just about being overwhelmed with your workload. Too many tasks, too many deadlines, too much on your plate.
But I’ve come to realise it’s so much more layered than that. It isn’t always the dramatic crash we imagine. Sometimes it’s subtle, slow, and almost invisible until you’re already in it.
Perhaps burnt out may look different for everyone.
For some, it shows up as exhaustion that never seems to go away. For others, it’s emotional numbness, going through the motions without really feeling present.
For me, burnout feels a bit like losing the passion I once felt so strongly for. Something that used to excite me now feels distant, like I’m watching my own life from the outside. Suddenly, I’m unsure. I’m questioning everything, my direction, my goals, even my identity.
There’s this strange push and pull. On one hand, there’s societal pressure telling me to keep going and to “get it together.” But on the other hand, there’s this overwhelming sense of not feeling it. No matter how hard I try to get that spark back, it flickers instead of burns.
I feel like this is the part we rarely talk about, how burnout can feel like losing a piece of yourself. It’s not just physical tiredness, it’s also emotional fatigue, mental fog, and a quiet sadness for the version of you who once had the energy, clarity, and passion. 😮💨
Ps. This might just be my pms brain talking, but I genuinely hope that everyone who’s feeling the same way finds their way back to their spark again. No matter how long it takes, I hope we all get there someday. ❤️🔥
