Finally tried Umai Artisanal Udon Bar. It’s under the same group as Omoté, so if you’re into Japanese food in Singapore, you’ve probably heard of them before.
They’re known for their udon, especially the Himokawa Udon, which is the super wide flat noodle that looks so eye-catching in photos. They also have different types of udon noodles, not just the usual round ones, with both classic and slightly fusion-style menus.
I went to the Bugis / Guoco Midtown outlet. The place is quite popular, so I’d really recommend booking in advance through their official website instead of walking in and waiting, especially during dinner time or weekends!
... Read moreDuring my visit to Umai Artisanal Udon Bar at Bugis, I was immediately drawn to their signature Himokawa Udon—the extra-wide flat noodles that are not only visually striking but also wonderfully chewy and satisfying. The richness of the broth combined with the unique texture of these wide noodles offered an experience distinct from typical udon dishes I've had before.
One tip I’d highly recommend is to make a reservation online, especially if you’re coming around dinner or weekends. The place is very popular among locals and tourists alike, and walk-in guests often face long waits. Also, it was interesting to see the variety of udon noodle types on their menu—not just the standard round noodles but also other shapes and thicknesses, which create different mouthfeels and taste profiles.
Besides udon, this bar serves some fusion-style Japanese dishes that add a creative twist to classic flavors, making the dining experience more exciting. The cozy atmosphere at the Guoco Midtown outlet added to the enjoyment, making it a perfect spot for casual meals or a small group gathering.
If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine or simply want to try something a little different than the usual ramen or sushi, Umai Artisanal Udon Bar is worth the visit. Its reputation within the same restaurant group as Omoté adds trust for a quality dining experience. Also, for dinner lovers, their offerings are perfect for a satisfying and comforting meal—don’t miss this spot on your next food adventure in Singapore!
