this mentaiko specialty hawker stall has opened another branch at amk, serving authentic chicken ramen 🍜 the chef is from osaka, so you can be assured that his recipes are authentically japanese 🇯🇵
personally, i loved that he offered miso and shoyu broths because i’m not a fan of the typical tonkotsu which gets too jelak for me. both the spicy and non-spicy versions were rich, savoury and not overpowering so it was easy to finish the whole bowl 😆 each bowl of ramen comes with a generous portion of springy noodles, fresh veggies like cabbage and carrots (not typical of ramen but i loved it!) and aburi chicken. the smokey flavour of the chicken was really addictive 🍗
for rice lovers, they also serve their signature mentaiko donburis 🍚 we tried the chicken katsu and unagi dons, and the chicken katsu was the unanimous favourite. it was coated with a thin, crisp batter and fried to perfection without being greasy. the chicken inside was incredibly tender and lean, and the mentaiko sauce was so generous and flavourful 😍
overall, this is a solid stall that serves refreshing alternatives to the usual coffeeshop options. if you’re ever tired of the basic chicken rice or bcm, definitely give this stall a try 😌

The emphasis on chicken collagen broth ensures a nourishing and flavorful base, setting this ramen apart from the typical pork-based options. I especially appreciated the options for miso and shoyu broths, which offered a savory depth without the overly creamy tonkotsu heaviness often found elsewhere.
Beyond ramen, the mentaiko donburis are a must-try. The chicken katsu don combines a thin crispy batter with tender, lean chicken, all elevated by a generous topping of flavorful mentaiko sauce — it’s a perfect balance of textures and tastes. For those who prefer something different, the unagi don adds a sweet, smoky dimension to their rice bowls.
The inclusion of fresh vegetables like cabbage and carrots in their ramen is a refreshing twist, giving the dish extra crunch and a touch of lightness that complemented the rich broth. This approach reflects the chef’s Osaka roots, blending authenticity with a thoughtful adaptation for coffeeshop dining.
Visiting Haru-Haru at AMK is ideal if you’re looking for a change from the usual local staples like chicken rice or bak chor mee. It’s a great spot to enjoy authentic Japanese flavors in a casual setting. Plus, the emphasis on chicken and no pork or lard aligns well with varied dietary preferences.
Overall, Haru-Haru provides not just a meal but a comforting and unique ramen experience that stands out in Singapore’s bustling food scene. Don’t miss their specialties if you crave authentic Japanese ramen cooked with a genuine Osaka touch.
