Celebrate Mardi Gras? Let’s make a 💜💚💛 snack.
Inspired by @britscookin & because it’s been way too long, let’s make some Mardi Gras Crack! 💜💚💛
I’m a Southern Mississippi girl living away from Mardi Gras again this year, but every year I try to bring a little Mardi Gras to you.
So this year, we’re making the perfect pick-and-go snack. Sweet, salty, crunchy, buttery, and easy to pack for the parade route.
And as we say in the South,
“Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Who’s ready for a piece?
🎭 Mardi Gras Crack
Ingredients
• 1 sleeve Saltine crackers (about 28)
• 1 stick salted butter + 1 cup dark brown sugar
• Dash of cinnamon sugar + splash of vanilla (I used homemade)
• 12–14 oz white almond bark
• Purple, green & gold sprinkles (Justice, Faith & Power)
Instructions
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange crackers in a single layer.
2. Melt butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla; simmer until bubbly.
3. Pour caramel over crackers and bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes.
4. Spread melted almond bark over the top and add sprinkles.
5. Chill until set, break into pieces, and enjoy at your leisure.
Sweet. Salty. Crunchy. Buttery. GOOD!
Mardi Gras Crack is truly a delightful treat that mixes sweet, salty, and buttery flavors with a perfect crunchy texture. As someone who grew up in the South and cherishes Mardi Gras traditions, I find this snack an excellent way to celebrate the season even when I can’t be on the parade route. What I love most about this recipe is its versatility and simplicity. Using everyday ingredients like saltine crackers and brown sugar caramel, it’s incredibly easy to whip up in under 30 minutes, making it perfect for last-minute gatherings or carrying along to any celebration. The addition of white almond bark adds a smooth, creamy layer of sweetness that perfectly balances the rich caramel. One of my favorite parts is decorating the snack with the iconic Mardi Gras colors: purple, green, and gold sprinkles. These colors symbolize justice, faith, and power—making the treat not only festive but meaningful. If you don’t have these exact sprinkles, colored sugar or even chopped nuts can add a nice touch. Tips for success include lining your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking, and watching the caramel closely as it simmers to avoid burning. After baking, make sure to chill the snack thoroughly so it hardens properly and breaks easily into pieces. This snack holds up well for hours, making it a convenient pick-and-go treat to enjoy while watching parades or during Mardi Gras parties. Beyond Mardi Gras, I often make it just as a fun sweet and salty snack that everyone loves. The combination of textures and flavors makes it hard to stop eating once you start. Overall, Mardi Gras Crack is more than just a snack; it’s a way to bring a little Southern Mardi Gras magic wherever you are. "Laissez les bons temps rouler" indeed—let the good times roll with every crunchy, buttery bite!
