アジサイの剪定は適切な時期と方法を守ることが来年の花付きに大きく影響します。特に、節の約1cm上で切る理由には、新芽を傷めず健康な成長を促すための工夫が示されています。私も毎年このタイミングで剪定を行いますが、切り口が見えないほどギリギリに切ってしまうと、剪定部分から枯れ込んでしまい、せっかくの新芽がダメ ージを受ける経験をしました。 また、新芽がまだ出ていない品種の場合、上から2～3節目でのカットも試しましたが、植物の成長サイクルに合わせた臨機応変な対応が重要だと感じます。肥料については、特に今年お迎えしたばかりの株にはあえて与えず、根の充実を優先しています。これにより夏の猛暑を乗り切り、秋以降に元気な花を咲かせられました。 さらに、室内で育てていたアジサイを急に強い日差しにあてるのは避け、明るい日陰から徐々に外の環境に慣らすことで葉焼けを防ぐ工夫もおすすめです。水切れは、特に夏の暑い時期に小さい鉢で起きやすいため、土の乾き具合をこまめにチェックし、たっぷりと与えてあげましょう。 私の体験では、夏の植え替えは避け、秋になって涼しくなってから鉢のサイズアップや土の入れ替えを行うことで、株の負担を軽減し翌年の花付きが良くなりました。アジサイは繊細ながらも丁寧にケアすれば、毎年美しい花を楽しめる植物です。今回紹介したポイントを参考に、是非次のシーズンも元気なアジサイを育ててくださいね。
