จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษและเตรียมสอบ TOEIC ผมพบว่าการใช้ article อย่างถูกต้องนั้นไม่ได้ยาก แต่สิ่งสำคัญคือต้องจดจำว่า article อย่าง a หรือ an นั้นขึ้นอยู่กับเสียงที่ออกต้นคำ ไม่ใช่ตัวอักษร เช่น คำว่า "university" ถึงแม้จะขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวอักษร U แต่เสียงอ่านเป็นเสียงพยัญชนะ "ย" จึงใช้ a university ไม่ใช่ an university นอกจากนี้ยังมีคำที่ออกเสียงตัว h แบบไม่ออกเสียง เช่น "hour" หรือ "honest" จึงต้องใช้ an hour, an honest man ซึ่งเป็นจุดที่หลายคนมักสับสนและทำผิดบ่อย ส่วนการใช้ the นั้น จะใช้เมื่อต้องการแสดงความเจาะจง เช่น สิ่งที่ผู้พูดและผู้ฟังทราบกันดีอยู่แล้ว หรือสิ่งที่มีแค่หนึ่งเดียวในโลก เช่น the sun, the moon หรือเมื่อต้องระบุลำดับที่ชัดเจน เช่น the first time นอกจากนี้ยังมีกรณีที่ไม่ต้องเติม article เช่น มื้ออาหาร (breakfast, lunch, dinner), ชื่อกีฬา (football, basketball), หรือสถานที่ที่ไปตามวัตถุประสงค์หลัก เช่น go to bed (เข้านอน), go to school (ไปเรียนหนังสือในฐานะนักเรียน), หรือ in hospital (เข้าโรงพยาบาลเพื่อรักษา) ซึ่งถือเป็นกฎสำคัญที่ช่วยให้เราไม่เติม a, an, หรือ the ผิดที่ผิดทาง การทบทวนกฎเหล่านี้ผ่านแบบฝึกหัดและข้อสอบจริงๆ จะช่วยให้เราจำได้แม่นยำขึ้น และสามารถแยกแยะการใช้ article ได้ถูกต้องในสถานการณ์ต่างๆ ผมแนะนำให้ลองจดบันทึกคำที่มักสับสนและฝึกพูดออกเสียงตามเสียงจริงของคำ เพื่อช่วยให้เข้าใจและจำได้ดียิ่งขึ้น รวมถึงแชร์ประสบการณ์หรือจุดหลอกที่เจอในข้อสอบกับเพื่อน ๆ เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนกัน เรียกได้ว่าเป็นเทคนิคการเรียนรู้ที่ดีมากๆ สำหรับใครที่กำลังเตรียมสอบและอยากเพิ่มความแม่นยำในการใช้ article
