#Lemon8Diary Coming on here to let you know that things can get better and that although things may seem hard, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
From age 12 to about 25 I was so lost in myself, wanting so desperately to fit in. I would look in the mirror and ask myself why I exist and why did I come into this world. The answer is: to be me. All those years wondering why I didn’t “fit in” when the answer was, I didn’t have to. I shouldn’t have to.
Conformity was on the rise at the end of my high school career with the Trump Admin campaign in 2015. All the years I lived being authentically myself, getting bullied for it but doing it nonetheless, became increasingly hard with the rhetoric in mass media.
I struggled with depression and anxiety and self-hârm. I never thought I would make it past 20, let alone 25. I was destroying my body with dřugs and alc0hol, slowly kìlling myself on purpose or hoping I wouldn’t wake up to live another day.

In times of struggle, many feel overwhelmed by societal standards that dictate how we should live and who we should be. Authenticity encourages us to embrace our true selves. Recent studies show that over 70% of young adults struggle with feelings of inadequacy due to these pressures.
Mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, often stem from the pressures to conform. It is essential to acknowledge these feelings and realize that seeking help is a strength, not a weakness. Support from friends, mental health professionals, and communities can provide the necessary tools for healing. Engaging in self-care practices, such as journaling or connecting with like-minded individuals, can also foster a sense of belonging.
Furthermore, the increasing acceptance of diversity in personal identity is helping many find confidence in their uniqueness. The advocacy for mental health awareness is pushing this conversation forward, providing a platform for voices that once felt silenced. The importance of highlighting authentic experiences in various aspects—be it fashion, lifestyle, or personal struggles—enables others to relate and find solace in shared stories. Remember, the journey toward embracing who you are deserves celebration, and every step taken is a testament to your strength.
