Getting Dressed Saved My Mood

Lately I realized… me not getting myself together was making me depressed.

So I started doing something simple: putting on clothes.

Not for a picture. Not to go anywhere. Just to feel like me again. 🩷✨

And y’all… it’s been helping so much.

Mental health is REAL.

Sometimes the smallest routines a cute outfit, a little skincare, brushing your hair can shift your whole mood.

Question:

Do you notice a difference in your mood when you get dressed, even if you’re staying home? 🤍

... Read moreIt's surprising how something as ordinary as putting on clothes can become a powerful tool for improving mental health. When feeling down or unmotivated, the act of dressing up—even without going out—can create a subtle but meaningful shift in mindset. This small routine helps establish a sense of normalcy and self-respect, which are essential in managing feelings of depression or lethargy. Wearing an outfit that makes you feel good about yourself can trigger positive emotions and provide a confidence boost. It sends a message to your brain that you're ready to face the day, even if it’s just for virtual meetings or quiet time at home. Complementing this with small rituals like skincare or grooming adds to the sense of self-care and peace. Many mental health experts encourage maintaining regular routines because they provide structure and predictability, which can combat feelings of overwhelm and sadness. Dressing up is more than just a superficial act; it's a way of reconnecting with your identity and expressing self-love. Incorporating these habits can also encourage you to move more, engage socially even online through platforms like Lemon8, or simply enjoy the act of creativity in styling your outfit. Whether it's casual comfort wear or a cute outfit that lifts your spirits, these intentional choices contribute to better overall emotional health. If you work from home, adopting such routines can help delineate work-life boundaries and reduce the mental strain of blending all aspects of life together. This healthy habit nurtures peace within yourself by cultivating mindfulness and awareness of your own needs. Overall, the simple act of getting dressed is a gentle reminder that small steps in self-care are valid and potent ways to manage mental health. So next time you feel down, remember that putting on an outfit isn't just about appearance—it's about honoring your well-being and feeling like yourself again.

A person's back shows long, light-colored damaged hair, with an inset close-up revealing severe thinning and breakage on the scalp. The image highlights the impact of 6 years of bleaching, hair extension damage, and diabetic hair thinning and loss.
This image explains how avoiding heat helps hair recovery. High temperatures alter hair's protein structure, convert α-keratin to β-keratin, weaken hair, open cuticles, and strip natural moisture and oils, leading to dryness and damage.
The image illustrates the benefits of using a shower filter for hair health. It removes contaminants like chlorine, lead, and heavy metals that can damage hair, making it rough and dry, and supports a healthy scalp for growth and shine.
How I saved my damaged hair
I absolutely destroyed my hair. I used to bleach my hair every 8 weeks for about 6 years and being a type 1 diabetic (I was newly diagnosed and had uncontrolled blood sugar in the beginning) led to my hair having constant breakage, thinning, never growing, and feeling like straw. I thought the cau
