Emotional Alchemy
Saying “yes” in the moment and regretting it later is a common experience.
It does not come from a lack of awareness.
It comes from how decisions are made in real time.
In conversation, responses are often produced while thoughts are still forming.
At the same time, there is pressure to keep the interaction smooth.
Saying “yes” can reduce discomfort immediately.
It avoids friction and keeps the exchange moving.
Under time pressure or fatigue, the brain simplifies decisions.
It selects what feels easier and safer to say in that moment.
The full evaluation often happens after the interaction ends.
With more time, your preference becomes clearer.
That is when the difference appears between what was said
and what you actually wanted.
A short pause changes that process.
Simple phrases like
“Let me think about it”
or “I’ll get back to you”
create space for a more accurate response.
Over time, that small shift can change how you answer.
