3 cup chicken except it’s vegan

My first lemon8 post! Why is this exactly like 小红书 lol.

This is a meat-free twist on the popular Chinese Three Cup Chicken (三杯鸡) , using tofu instead of chicken. Typically, the dish uses 3 cups of each for the sauce: soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice wine, hence the name.

$13 🇨🇦 for this recipe, or $9 USD 🇺🇸. This makes about 8 servings in total, if eaten with rice and another side dish.

When I make this again I’ll definitely use fresh basil instead of dry - I didn’t have any fresh basil on hand! The dry basil was fine but it kept getting stuck in my teeth which made this a bit awkward to eat for lunch at work haha. After eating this I’d have to go clean my teeth after eating to make myself presentable 😂

Also, I am getting over a bad flu hence my voice in the voiceover and also hence my absence from this platform for a week. But I’m back, yayy.

... Read moreIf you're new to vegan cooking, this Three Cup Chicken recipe is a great introduction to adapting traditional meat dishes into delicious plant-based meals. I personally found that swapping chicken for firm tofu keeps the dish hearty and nutritious without losing any of that savory sauce goodness. When I first made it, I didn't have fresh basil, so I used dried, but it tended to stick in my teeth, which wasn't ideal for work lunches. Fresh basil elevated the flavor and made it much easier to enjoy! Another tip I learned is to pair this dish with simple steamed rice and a vegetable side to balance the rich sauce. The recipe makes about eight servings, so it’s perfect for batch cooking and freezing portions for busy days. If you’re curious about variations, try baking the tofu before adding the sauce for extra texture. Also, experimenting with different types of rice wine can subtly change the flavor profile. This dish is a wonderful way to enjoy familiar flavors without compromising on your plant-based lifestyle.
