how I take notes outside of class

app: GoodNotes 5

1️⃣ I always make sure I write down today’s date. I find it easier to recall information when I remember the day I learn about the information

2️⃣ stick to one color, and use different colors for supporting information. I use red for reminders and blue for key ideas

3️⃣ I try to take my notes in chunks of bullet points instead of cramming it all into one large paragraph. I usually leave some gap when taking notes in class so I have room to go back and fill in details I missed after class. It’s definitely easier to do this on an iPad because I can move sentences around

4️⃣ because I can add screenshots of diagrams directly, this saved me so much time in flipping back and forth between my notebook and PDF textbook.

... Read moreTaking notes outside of class can greatly enhance your learning by allowing you to review and build upon the information presented in lectures. Using digital tools such as GoodNotes 5, as described in the article, facilitates a higher level of organization and efficiency. Writing down the date at the beginning of each note session is not just a simple habit—but a powerful memory aid. It helps anchor information in a specific context, which improves recall during exam preparation or revision. The use of color coding in note-taking is another effective technique. Assigning colors like red for reminders and blue for key ideas creates visual differentiation, making it easier to scan and prioritize information later. This method aligns well with cognitive psychology findings that suggest color helps enhance memory encoding and retrieval. Structuring notes in bullet points instead of long paragraphs further improves clarity and allows for easier scanning. Bullet points break down information into manageable chunks, helping avoid cognitive overload. Leaving gaps when taking notes provides space to add supporting details after class, improving the comprehensiveness of your study materials. An advanced benefit of GoodNotes 5 includes the ability to insert screenshots of diagrams and annotate them directly within your notes. This feature eliminates the need to flip back and forth between physical textbooks and notebooks, streamlining the study process and saving valuable time. Additionally, based on analysis of the related OCR content, integrating supporting information and key ideas with consistent formatting enhances the usability and functionality of your digital notebooks. Focusing on muscle groups involved in sound production, and other detailed subject knowledge can be methodically organized using the techniques described. In summary, combining these methods—date stamping, color coding, bullet point chunking, and digital annotation—optimizes note-taking outside the classroom. This approach not only aids retention but also transforms note review sessions into efficient, focused study time. Students aiming to improve academic performance should consider adopting these strategies to make their study sessions more productive and engaging.
