... Read moreFrom personal experience and extensive research, dealing with viruses like Ebola and COVID-19 reveals the immense challenges they impose on individual and public health. These viruses are not only devastating due to their high fatality rates—Ebola and Smallpox, for example, can reach 100% fatality in untreated cases—but also because of the lasting social and psychological impacts they inflict on communities. Ebola virus infection is known for causing severe symptoms such as brain paralysis, critical limb damage, and extreme pain. These manifestations lead to a high mortality rate, which can be up to 90% in some outbreaks. Similarly, Smallpox historically caused widespread death and disfigurement until its global eradication through vaccination. COVID-19, while less fatal than Ebola or Smallpox, has caused a global pandemic with millions of deaths, showing how a virus can critically affect societies worldwide. What struck me the most personally was seeing how misinformation and intentional harm can exacerbate the effects of these viruses through racism and distrust in health systems. In some countries, mistrust and social stigma hinder efforts to control outbreaks, causing further harm to families and communities. The mention of hidden injections and harmful treatments in the shared content reflects the deep distrust some populations have towards government and medical institutions, which must be addressed through education and transparent communication. Additionally, viruses like HIV and rabies continue to pose threats due to their impact on the immune system and nervous system, respectively. HIV, a chronic condition, requires lifelong management but can be controlled effectively with modern antiretroviral therapies, reducing mortality significantly when patients have access to care. Prevention is key to managing these deadly diseases. Vaccination programs, public health education, and early detection are crucial tools. For instance, the eradication of Smallpox is a testament to how coordinated global vaccination campaigns can eliminate a deadly virus. In conclusion, understanding these viruses not only through their biological effects but also through their social impacts is essential. Personal vigilance, community support, and trust in health authorities play vital roles in overcoming these health threats globally.
