... Read moreA successful garden bed mix relies on the right blend of ingredients, prioritizing both nutrition and structure. Begin with wood chips as a base layer to promote proper drainage while gradually decomposing. Incorporate high-quality garden soil, which serves as the primary foundation for your plants. Adding Black Kow compost enriches this mix further, supplying essential nutrients that encourage robust growth. To enhance aeration and retain moisture, combine perlite and vermiculite, a dynamic duo that keeps roots healthy and hydrated. For additional nutrition, consider blood meal for natural nitrogen, promoting leafy growth, and bone meal for exceptional root strength and bloom production. Lastly, prioritize the use of worm castings, a natural fertilizer that delivers powerful nutrients, significantly benefiting your leafy greens, plants, and flowers. With the right garden bed mix, you'll create an environment where your plants can flourish, ensuring a fruitful and vibrant garden, whether planting tomatoes, herbs, or flowers. Experimenting with these ingredients will help you discover your perfect soil blend, tailored to your gardening style and plant types.

An infographic titled 'WRONG DEPTH, WASTED ROOTS' illustrates optimal raised bed depths for various crops. It shows 6-inch beds for lettuce, radishes, herbs; 12-inch for peppers, bush beans, cucumbers; 18-inch for tomatoes, carrots, potatoes; and 24-inch for asparagus, sweet potatoes, and artichokes, emphasizing matching depth to root needs.
Pick the right height for a raised bed.
Every raised bed the same height means some crops get too little soil and others get more than they'll ever use. Each crop's root system needs a specific depth. Too shallow and roots hit bottom, fork, and starve the plant. Too deep and you're paying for soil that nothing reaches.
