The symptoms that made me realize I had PCOS

These were huge red flags for me!

At the beginning of 2023 I felt and looked by myself but slowly throughout the year I started gaining weight, breaking out, and started feeling horrible.

I was going through a stressful situation, but I knew something else was wrong.

The cystic acne along my jawline and chin were big indicators for me. I had acne breakouts before but not in those places and they were not cystic! I Googled and those places are indicators that hormones are imbalanced.

I was also dealing with chronic, painful bloating! everytime I would eat I would get stabbing pains in my stomach which was not normal for me

My periods were so painful that I couldn’t get out of bed for 2 days! The bleeding also got heavier and I felt completely drained.

I also just felt so anxious all the time. I think dealing with these symptoms made me anxious but something was just OFF

All of these symptoms combined motivated me to go to the doctor and get my blood work done. Blood work showed that I did in fact have PCOS!!

I’m so grateful I listened to my body <3

... Read morePolycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects millions of women worldwide, yet its symptoms can often be misunderstood or mistaken for other health issues. Understanding the signs early on is essential to managing the condition effectively. Cystic acne along the jawline and chin is a common hormonal imbalance indicator in many women with PCOS. Unlike typical acne, cystic acne is deeper, more painful, and resistant to conventional treatments. Along with skin changes, many experience chronic, painful bloating, which may be linked to digestive disturbances common in PCOS. Menstrual irregularities are another hallmark symptom. Periods might become heavier, longer, or more painful over time, sometimes causing severe discomfort and fatigue that impacts daily life. These symptoms might be accompanied by anxiety and mood fluctuations, which are not just psychological but also driven by hormonal imbalances associated with PCOS. It's important to recognize that PCOS is a multifaceted syndrome involving insulin resistance, androgen excess, and inflammation. Therefore, symptoms vary widely and can include weight gain, fatigue, hair thinning, and difficulty conceiving. Timely blood work and a thorough medical evaluation are critical for an accurate diagnosis. Once diagnosed, lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and sometimes medications can help regulate symptoms and reduce long-term health risks. Remember, listening to your body and seeking medical advice when something feels off can make a significant difference. PCOS is manageable with the right support, and connecting with communities can provide emotional and practical help during your journey.

Are these signs actually PCOS?
For the longest time, I didn’t understand what was happening with my body. I kept blaming stress, my sleep, or my diet until I learned it was PCOS. PCOS often happens when the body produces too much insulin or androgen (male hormone). When that balance is off, it can affect your ovulation, mood,
