GINGER EXTRACT

As promised in my previous post, here you have the recipe I use to prepare ginger extract, which is a fancy way to say, liquified ginger to add on anything as a liquid instead of in chunks.

This is pretty basic and you can genuinely find anywhere as it’s as old as it gets, however, I encourage everyone to try and to experiment. Check other recipes, add different products, spices and fun to your creation.

Personally this is going to be a extremely simple recipe as once again I’m working towards helping my wife with her thyroid issues which requires a very specific diet, sometimes too limited, which makes it more challenging but there are methods out there, and Ginger is one of them.

Ingredients:

1 Ginger Root (full root which should be around 20-25 ounces)

3 Cups of Water

Preparation:

Peel and cut the ginger in small 1-2 inches pieces.

Place the ginger in a pan with the water and put to boil.

Once the water reaches boiling temperature let it boils for 5 minutes before covering it.

Let the ginger boil for 10 minutes.

Still covered, place the pan aside and let it cool down to a warm temperature, around 45 minutes depending on where you live. (Don’t forget to turn off your stove please!!!)

Place that water and ginger together in a blender.

Blend until smooth.

You can make it stronger or lighter depending on how much water you work with. The less water, the stronger it gets. If you have a juicer instead of a blender or food processor, you can make ginger extract with no water at all. (A bit of an overkill in my opinion but be my guest)

Also, as I said earlier, you can mix together with sugar, cinnamon, some tea, anise, etc… possibilities are endless.

It scrapes away the skin effortlessly, minimizing waste compared to a peeler or knife, especially around those knobby bits. Give it a try next time! My Favorite Ways to Use Homemade Ginger Extract Once you have your golden ginger extract, the possibilities are truly endless. Here are some of my go-to uses: Morning Boost: A teaspoon in hot water with a squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of honey makes a fantastic wake-up tonic. Smoothie Power-Up: Just a splash can transform a regular fruit smoothie into an invigorating, metabolism-boosting drink. Cooking & Marinades: I love adding it to stir-fries, salad dressings, or even chicken marinades for an unexpected zing. It blends seamlessly and infuses flavor beautifully. "Wellness Shots": For a potent health kick, mix a small amount with apple cider vinegar and a pinch of cayenne. Talk about an energy blast! Mocktails & Cocktails: It's an amazing base for non-alcoholic drinks, or you can get creative and use it in your favorite adult beverages for a spicy twist. Storing Your Liquid Gold After all your effort, you'll want to store your ginger extract properly to maximize its shelf life. I typically pour mine into an airtight glass jar or bottle and keep it in the refrigerator. It usually stays fresh for about 1-2 weeks. If you make a larger batch, you can even freeze portions in ice cube trays! Once frozen, pop the cubes into a freezer bag, and they'll be good for a couple of months – perfect for when you need a quick ginger fix. Experiment and Make It Your Own!
