Most of the time labor and delivery is full of happy memories but occasionally we have devastation from fetal demise cases. No matter the gestation they hurt.
On our unit, we have some tools to help grieving families with their bereavement.
•Cuddle cot- this is a bassinet that cools down the infant so they may stay in the room with the family.
•Keepsakes- we have an assortment of items here! We have memory boxes we can do prints in, teddy bears, blankets, etc.
•Water Photography supplies- this includes a basin, sterile water, backdrops, and some other supplies of families would like us to take photos of their infant. We actually have several staff members who are certified in neonatal demise water photography. It isn’t for everyone but the results are amazing and touching. If you have t heard of this photography- I recommend looking into it!
•Sibling items- younger kids tend to not grasp that they will not be bringing home a baby brother or sister. This cart is full of books and mementos to help the siblings understand and cope with what has happened.
