Tell me you have a beardie without telling me! 😩

After dealing with my beardie's daily dramatics, I often find myself wondering about other aspects of their lives. Like, how long do these little guys take to grow, and is it ever okay to take them out in public when they're not faking a crisis? When I first brought my little Spike home, he was no bigger than my thumb! Watching Spike grow has been a journey, from a clumsy little hatchling to a confident, albeit dramatic, adult. It's fascinating how much their personality and needs evolve as they get bigger. Thinking about taking Spike out for a walk always brings a mix of excitement and worry. On one hand, it would be cool to show him off! But then I think about all the risks. I've seen people use little harnesses, which look adorable, but I'd be so anxious about him escaping or getting stressed. The biggest thing I've learned is that it's crucial to consider the temperature. Bearded dragons need specific warmth, so a quick trip to a park on a sunny day might seem okay, but even a slight chill can be dangerous. Plus, there's the risk of parasites or diseases from other animals, and the sheer overstimulation from new sights and sounds can be really stressful for them. Personally, I've decided to keep Spike's outdoor adventures limited to a secure, supervised spot in my backyard, just for some natural sunlight and fresh air. It's a lot less stress for both of us! If you do consider taking your beardie out, research local regulations, ensure they are comfortable with handling, and always prioritize their safety and well-being. Maybe a gentle stroll in a carrier is a better option than a full-on public appearance for most beardies. Owning a bearded dragon is certainly an adventure, full of dramatic moments and endless learning. From their growth spurts to contemplating their public debut, every day brings something new with these fascinating reptiles. And yes, sometimes it feels like they're just trying to keep us on our toes!
