✨ Citrus Fruits Hack You Didn’t Know ✨

2025/9/5 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so I used to dread juicing citrus fruits. My hands would ache, and I'd always feel like I was leaving so much valuable juice behind, especially with those stubborn lemons and limes. I’d squeeze and squeeze, and just get a trickle! But then, a friend shared this incredible kitchen hack with me, and it has genuinely revolutionized how I approach juicing. It sounds a bit unconventional at first, but trust me, microwaving lemon before juicing (or any citrus!) is a total game-changer. The first time I heard about microwaving lemon to get more juice, I was skeptical. Pop a fruit in the microwave? Really? But I decided to give it a shot with a particularly firm lemon I had. I put it in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds (depending on the size, sometimes a little longer for a big orange). What happens is that the heat from the microwave gently warms the fruit, which in turn softens the internal membranes that hold the juice. It's like it relaxes the fruit, making it much easier for all that delicious liquid to escape. After its short stint in the microwave, I let it cool for just a moment so it wasn't too hot to handle. Then, I rolled it firmly on the counter a few times, applying a good amount of pressure. This rolling action, combined with the microwave treatment, helps break down those internal segments even further. Finally, I cut it in half and started juicing, and honestly, the difference was astounding. Instead of struggling, the juice just flowed out so easily. I got visibly more juice from that one lemon than I usually would from two! It felt like I was getting double the juice with half the effort, just like the original tip said. This hack works wonderfully for microwaving lime as well. Limes can be even tougher to juice than lemons sometimes, but a quick microwave session makes them yield so much more. I've also tried it with oranges and even tangerines for freshly squeezed breakfast juice, and it makes breakfast prep so much quicker and more efficient. No more sore wrists from trying to get every last drop! Beyond just the microwave trick, I've picked up a few other related tips that really help maximize your citrus yield. Always try to use room temperature fruit; cold fruit is generally harder to juice. If you don't have a microwave handy, a good firm roll on the counter for about 30 seconds can also help, though not quite as dramatically as the microwave. Another thing I've learned is about how you cut the fruit. Instead of just in half, sometimes cutting it into quarters or even slightly off-center can expose more pulp for easier juicing, depending on your juicer. So, if you're like I was, struggling with getting enough juice from your citrus, you absolutely have to try microwaving your lemon before juicing. It’s a simple, quick step that makes a huge difference in efficiency and yield. It’s become a staple in my kitchen, and I can't imagine going back to my old juicing ways. Give it a go and let me know how much more juice you get!
