Lightning McQueen drawing I did for my friend

... Read moreDrawing a beloved character like Lightning McQueen can be both exciting and a little intimidating, especially if you're not used to character art. When I first took on this project, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but it was rewarding to see the transformation from a blank page to a finished piece. One thing I found helpful was breaking down Lightning McQueen’s features into simple shapes — circles for his eyes and wheels, ovals for his body, and curves for his smile. This approach made the complex details more manageable. Also, focusing on capturing the car's expression helped bring personality to the drawing, which is key for characters like Lightning. I used a mix of sketching and shading techniques to give depth to the drawing, even though I’m still getting comfortable with shading on characters. Practicing with colors and highlights really helped the drawing pop and resemble the animated look from the movie Cars. Sharing this drawing with my friend added a personal touch and motivated me to improve my skills more. For anyone trying character drawing, especially if it’s your first time or you’re venturing out of your usual style, I recommend patience and lots of practice. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes — they’re part of the learning process. Most importantly, have fun bringing your favorite characters to life on paper!
