Moving to Brazil? 🇧🇷

Here are 3 visa options that could make it happen:

🟢 Tourist Visa – Perfect for short stays or testing the waters.

🟢 Digital Nomad Visa – Great if you work remotely and want to stay long-term.

🟢 Retiree Visa – Ideal if you’re ready to slow down and enjoy life abroad.

We spent 3 months living in Brazil and loved it. It was affordable for us as Americans, the culture was warm and vibrant, and the weather? Perfection. ☀️🌴

If you’re dreaming of retiring or living abroad, Brazil might be your move.

... Read moreSo, you're dreaming of moving to Brazil too? After spending three incredible months experiencing the vibrant culture, perfect weather, and affordable lifestyle, I can tell you it’s a dream worth pursuing! My previous post briefly touched on visa options, but let's dive deeper into how you can make your move to Brazil a reality, whether you're a digital nomad, looking to retire, or just want an extended visit. Unpacking the Digital Nomad Visa (VITEM XIV) This visa is a game-changer for anyone working remotely and eyeing a long-term stay. Brazil's Digital Nomad Visa, officially known as VITEM XIV, allows you to live and work from anywhere in the country for one year, with the option to renew for another year. To qualify, you’ll typically need to prove you work for a foreign company, or have clients outside Brazil, and have a stable monthly income. While the exact threshold can vary, generally showing consistent earnings (often around $1,500-$2,000 USD per month) and a service contract or employment letter is crucial. It’s perfect for those wanting to immerse themselves fully without constant short-term renewals. Retiree Visa: Your Golden Ticket to Paradise If slowing down and enjoying life abroad is your goal, the Retiree Visa is ideal. As the OCR highlights, this visa is generally available for those at least 60 years old with a minimum monthly pension of $2,000 USD. This ensures you have a stable income to support yourself comfortably in Brazil. Beyond the financial requirement, you'll need documentation of your pension, a clean criminal record, and health insurance valid in Brazil. Imagine waking up to sunshine, enjoying fresh tropical fruits, and living in a country where your pension goes further – a true dream for many expats! Tourist Visa: Testing the Waters For those not ready to commit to a long-term move, the Tourist Visa is your starting point. As a U.S. citizen, you can typically get an e-visa that allows for stays of up to 90 days. The good news is that this 90-day period can often be extended for an additional 90 days, giving you a total of 180 days within a 12-month period to explore. It’s perfect for "testing the waters" before making a bigger commitment, just as my partner and I did! Just remember, you’re not allowed to work on a tourist visa. Beyond the Visa: Practical Tips for Your Move to Brazil Once the visa is sorted, what next? Here are a few things I learned about moving to Brazil from the US: Cost of Living: Brazil can indeed be quite affordable, especially outside major metropolitan hubs. My partner and I found groceries, local transportation, and dining out significantly cheaper than back home. Rent can vary, but you can find great value. Language: While many in tourist areas speak some English, learning Portuguese will drastically enhance your experience and help you integrate into the vibrant culture. Apps like Duolingo or local tutors can be incredibly helpful. Banking & Healthcare: Setting up a local bank account often requires a CPF (tax ID). Regarding healthcare, Brazil has both public and private systems; many expats opt for private health insurance for more comprehensive coverage. Community & Culture: Connect with expat groups online or in person. Brazilians are incredibly warm and welcoming, so don't be shy about making local friends! Embrace the vibrant culture and enjoy the amazing weather. Work Visa vs. Digital Nomad: If your goal is to be employed by a Brazilian company, you’ll need a specific work visa, which usually requires a job offer. The Digital Nomad Visa is a fantastic alternative for those whose work isn't tied to a specific location. Moving abroad is a big step, but with the right preparation and a bit of adventurous spirit, Brazil truly offers a rewarding experience for digital nomads, retirees, and anyone dreaming of a new new chapter. I hope these insights help you on your journey!
