Measuring seeds and reflecting
For those who’ve been wondering where I’ve been this month, I’ve been reflecting a lot and advancing ecological decolonization by spreading native plant seeds!
With over 100 seed packs sold at this month’s Invertebrate expo in Montreal, I’m overjoyed at the thought of some of these seeds taking root and restoring the land one patch at a time.
I’m soft launching my cringe-worthily low-budget online native seed shop, and am open for special orders. I can put together a collection of good native plants for your area, and supply seeds and advice.
My own ecological knowledge is focused on Eastern Canada, including the maritimes, southern Quebec, and parts of Ontario. Many of the plants I work with have ranges that spread into the western provinces, though, and I am open to further researching plants good for any area in Canada upon request.
Today I’m measuring out and packaging the seeds of a popular but costly species, Impatiens capensis. They are beautiful, medicinal, and a food source for hummingbirds and other pollinators!
