Someone once told me that just because you ask God for something doesn’t mean He will give it to you.
But John 1:14-15 says, “Now this is the confidence that we have in him, that whatever we ask according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him.”
Of course, what we ask for shouldn’t go against God’s will or His Word. But there’s a common belief that we can never truly know God’s will for us – that “what will be will be.” But didn’t Jesus say, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9)?
This means if you want to know what the Father’s will, thoughts, and intentions are for you and your family, look to Jesus in the Gospels.
So, if your child is sick, is healing God’s will? Well, look at Jesus and how He ministered to sick children – the Syrophoenician woman’s daughter who was demon-possessed (Mark 7:24-30), Jairus’ daughter who was dead (Mark 5:22-24, 35-43), and the widow of Nain’s only son who was dead and being carried out for burial (Luke 7:12-15). Jesus cast out demons, He raised the dead, and He healed them all!

I remember a time when the phrase 'in Him we live and move and have our being' felt a bit abstract to me. It sounded profound, but what did it truly mean for my everyday life? Is it His will for me to pursue justice or help those in need? Again, Jesus's life provides the clearest answer. It's not about guessing; it's about observing and imitating. And that verse, 1 John 5:14, 'Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us,' has become a cornerstone of my prayer life. It’s not a blank check, but an invitation to pray boldly *when I know His will*. How do I know? By spending time in the Bible, especially the Gospels, asking the Holy Spirit for discernment, and looking at Jesus. If I'm praying for strength to love an unlovable person, I know that's aligned with Jesus's heart. If I'm praying for wisdom in a difficult decision, knowing that Jesus is wisdom personified gives me confidence. This isn't just theory; it's about seeing how Jesus interacted with people, how He taught, and how He lived. Living 'in Him' and understanding His will has had a profound positive influence on every area of my life. It shifts my perspective from 'what do I want?' to 'what does God want through me?' When I started to genuinely ask, 'DO YOU KNOW THE LORD IN THE BIBLE?' and sought to know Him intimately, my interactions changed. I became more patient, more empathetic. My decisions felt more grounded, and I found peace even in chaos. For instance, when facing career choices, instead of solely chasing worldly success, I now ask, 'How can this path allow me to serve others or bring positive change, reflecting Jesus's character?' Or when dealing with conflict, instead of reacting impulsively, I pause and remember Jesus's teachings on peacemaking and turning the other cheek. This doesn't mean life becomes easy, but it means I have a compass. It helps me discern the whispers of God's Spirit from the noise of the world. Because when you truly know the Lord, as He is revealed in the Bible, you begin to see His fingerprints everywhere, guiding you to live a life that not only satisfies your soul but also blesses those around you. It's a continuous process of learning, listening, and letting Jesus transform you from the inside out, so that your very presence becomes a source of positive influence.
