7 Reads in July

July was a better month for me. I’ve been in a reading slump for so long with things going on, but this month I read 7 books. I don’t know if I will hit my 2025 goal I set, but I’m feeling pretty good anyways.

1. The Good Girl - on the edge of my seat with this thriller. However, unexpected twist at the end. Loved it.

2. Rock, Paper, Scissors - this book had a slow start. I loved it because the twist I didn’t see coming.

3. None of This is True - two ladies, with the same birthday run across each other. They do a podcast of her life and you’ll never expect what happens. I felt like this book dragged on some, but still good.

4. The Missing Half - true crime podcaster, Ashley Flowers, hit this book out of the park. Devoured it in a day. Two girls who lost their sisters combine their skills to find them. Holy mother didn’t see the end coming.

5. Don’t Let Him In - again felt like the book was a little bit hard to get through. But I still enjoyed reading it. The perfect guy right? Seems simple enough! Until you find out what’s underneath.

6. Sacrificial Touch - my first Christian medical thriller. I will never not recommend. I cried, I gasped, I loved. Just do it. That is all.

7. Powerless - not my favorite of the series. I still enjoyed it though and can’t wait for the next book to find out more details that they scattered through the book.

I enjoyed my reads this month. This month was the first month of reading that I read for me. I read books of a genre I enjoyed. Instead of being influenced by others. What was your favorite read of July?

... Read moreJuly marked a refreshing resurgence from my reading slump, as I embraced a diverse collection of seven books that rekindled my love for storytelling. The thrillers like 'The Good Girl' by Mary Kubica and 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' by Alice Feeney delivered suspenseful plots with unexpected twists that kept me captivated until the last page. 'None of This is True' by Lisa Jewell intrigued with its unique premise of two women sharing the same birthday and connecting through a podcast, though the pacing varied. Ashley Flowers and Alex Kister’s 'The Missing Half' was a standout true crime read, brilliantly merging podcast storytelling techniques with a compelling narrative about sisters on a quest, a book I devoured in a day due to its gripping intensity. 'Don’t Let Him In' delivered psychological suspense wrapped in the facade of a perfect romance, revealing the chilling layers beneath. On a different note, 'Sacrificial Touch' provided a powerful entry into Christian medical thriller territory, combining emotional depth and suspense, highly recommended for those seeking heartfelt yet thrilling reads. Concluding my month with Elsie Silver’s 'Powerless,' a friends-to-lovers romance with a slow burn and promising twists for the series. These seven books not only offered entertainment but also reminded me of the importance of reading for personal joy and discovery, rather than external pressures. Reading slumps are common, but mixing genres—thrillers, true crime, and romance—can revitalize your passion for books. Whether you enjoy nail-biting suspense or heartfelt stories, July’s reads demonstrate that finding books aligning with your unique taste can turn any slump around. Engaging with the #lemon8bookclub and #julyreadingwrapup communities is a great way to explore recommendations and share your favorites. What was your top read for July? My Top 7 Reads Out of 42 Books in June 👀
I read 42 books in June, and these were the ones that stood out. Every single one of these earned ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me. No forced ratings. No “it’ll get better.” These books had me staying up late, talking to my Kindle, laughing, getting mad, and rooting for characters that definitely needed therapy. 😂
