Things to do in Buenos Aires

1) Take a free walking tour of the city center, including the Casa Rosada, Congreso Nacional, Plaza de Mayo, and the best architecture and history in the area. Afterwards check out a “cafe notable” or historic cafe 💒

2) Go to Recoleta Cemetery, probably the coolest cemetery you’ve ever seen. I recommend a walking tour here too in order to learn all the history of the tombs. While you’re in Recoleta, check out the Evita Museum for more history about Argentina’s famous First Lady 🪦

3) Go to a tango show, or even better, a “milonga” in a plaza or public space, where music is played and everyone from couples to friends to old folks come to dance tango together 💃

4) For a nature break, go to the Bosques de Palermo park and check out the rose gardens and lakes full of geese 🪿 💐afterwards, go shopping or go to a restaurant in the Palermo neighborhood

5) Go to La Boca neighborhood and explore El Caminito, a street lined with colorful houses, impressive murals, souvenir shops, and street performers 🎨🎭

6) Go to a bakery anywhere in the city and try Argentina’s best pastries: medialunas (croissants filled with dulce de leche) and alfajores (cookie sandwiches also filled with dulce de leche) along with many others- as you can tell, dulce de leche is a specialty! 🥐

7) Go to one of the city’s many art museums- the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes had free entry- and see Argentina’s great contributions to art 🖼️ Afterwards, check out El Ateneo, one of the world’s most beautiful bookstores 📚

8) Go to Puerto Madero to see the city skyline, and walk along the water to look at the boats. Then, get dinner at a nice restaurant or go get pizza, which Buenos Aires has its own unique version 🌉🍕

Did I miss anything? Let me know! I loved Buenos Aires and can’t wait to go back 🇦🇷🧉

... Read moreHey fellow travelers! I wanted to share a bit more about my amazing time in Buenos Aires, especially focusing on some spots that truly stole my heart. You know how everyone talks about the *Bosques de Palermo*? Well, let me tell you, it's even more enchanting than photos suggest, especially those famous *rose gardens*! During my summer visit, I spent a glorious afternoon wandering through the Rosedal in Bosques de Palermo. The air was filled with the scent of hundreds of roses, and it felt like stepping into a romantic movie scene. Don't just walk through quickly – take your time, find a bench, and simply soak it all in. I even saw some incredible street performers near the entrance, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. And yes, the lake with its graceful geese is exactly as serene as it sounds – perfect for a leisurely stroll or even renting a paddle boat if you're feeling adventurous! It's truly a refreshing escape from the city bustle, and one of my absolute favorite things to do in Buenos Aires when the sun is shining. Another area that completely captivated me, particularly in the evenings, was *Puerto Madero*. This modern waterfront district with its sleek city skyline is a fantastic place to experience Buenos Aires' contemporary side. I loved walking along the docks, watching the boats gently sway, and admiring the Puente de la Mujer. There are so many fantastic restaurants here, from casual pizzerias to upscale dining, making it ideal for a memorable dinner with a view. It's especially lively in the Buenos Aires summer evenings, with people out enjoying meals and the cool breeze off the water. It feels safe and vibrant, a perfect spot for an evening out after a day of sightseeing. Speaking of summer, exploring Buenos Aires during this season is an experience in itself! The city truly comes alive, and you'll find so many activities spilling out onto the *streets*. From impromptu tango dances in plazas to outdoor markets, there's always something happening. Just remember to stay hydrated, wear comfortable shoes, and embrace the energy. I found that starting my days early to explore landmarks like La Casa Rosada and the *Congreso Nacional*, then taking a siesta or enjoying an indoor museum like the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes during the hottest part of the afternoon, worked perfectly. Then, as the evening cools, head out for a delicious meal or perhaps even a visit to the iconic El Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore – a feast for the eyes! The city's summer city vibe is truly infectious, with vibrant energy everywhere. And for a truly authentic experience, don't miss the colorful vibes of La Boca neighborhood and its iconic Caminito, or the historical richness of Recoleta Cemetery where every tomb tells a story. There's just so much to discover here, and every corner holds a new surprise!
