Often, kindness and goodness are mistaken for weakness or availability, leading others to take advantage without genuine appreciation. Understanding this dynamic is vital to maintaining healthy boundaries. It's important to recognize when our goodwill is reciprocated with respect and affection versus when it is exploited. Setting clear limits and communicating our needs openly can protect us from being used. Moreover, self-love plays a crucial role. When we value ourselves and our contributions, we become less likely to tolerate unfair treatment. This doesn't mean we should stop being kind; rather, we should be mindful of who deserves our kindness and under what circumstances. I've found that reflecting on this insight has helped me cultivate stronger relationships where my goodness is met with genuine love and appreciation.
