However, metabolism is influenced by various factors beyond just exercise, such as your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which accounts for the majority of calories burned daily. From my experience, I found that activities like digesting food, maintaining body temperature, and basic bodily functions consume far more calories than my gym sessions. This doesn't mean exercise isn't important—it improves cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and mood—but it's just a smaller piece of the calorie-burning puzzle. For sustainable weight loss, paying attention to nutrition, sleep quality, and stress management is equally important. For example, eating whole foods that support your metabolism and getting enough rest enhances how effectively your body burns calories throughout the day. Incorporating small lifestyle changes like standing more often, walking during breaks, or taking stairs helps increase your overall calorie burn outside of workouts. These habits, combined with consistent moderate exercise, make managing your weight journey more realistic and enjoyable.
