Being constantly reachable and swept up in fast-moving trends had deeply impacted my mental state without me noticing. In the village, the slower rhythm immediately changed my nervous system. The pressure to respond instantly vanished, allowing my mind and body to reconnect in a way that felt almost like coming home. It’s as if the beauty of the surroundings—timeless landscapes, historic streets, and genuine human interactions—started to rewire my priorities. I began to appreciate ordinary joys that I had previously overlooked. Living amidst old villages like those in Sicily reveals why many residents live long, peaceful lives. Their bodies are not adapted to chaos but to balance and rest, which made me reconsider the guilt I once felt about taking breaks or slowing down. The less I was consumed by trends and constant consumption, the more authentic beauty I noticed—simple pleasures that can’t be replicated or bought. This experience taught me that changing the environment goes beyond superficial lifestyle changes; it influences your nervous system, your perception of time, and ultimately how you define a good life.
