Perfect Thai Tea for Summer

🧋 Thai Tea Recipe for 70 g of ChaTraMue (About 6–8 Servings)

🌿 Ingredients

• 70 g ChaTraMue Thai tea mix

• 8 cups (≈1.9 L) water

• ½ cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk – adjust to taste

• ½ cup (120 ml) evaporated milk or whole milk – adjust to taste

• 3–4 tbsp sugar (optional)

• Ice, preferably crushed

🍶 Instructions

1. Heat the water

Bring the 8 cups of water to a rolling boil.

2. Steep the tea

Add the 70 g tea mix, stir, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a stronger brew, you can extend to 6 minutes.

3. Strain the tea

Use a fine mesh strainer or tea sock to remove all leaves. Set the tea aside to cool slightly.

4. Sweeten while warm

While still warm, stir in the sweetened condensed milk and sugar until fully dissolved. This helps the sugar incorporate smoothly.

5. Add a creamy touch

Stir in the evaporated or whole milk. Taste and adjust sweetness or creaminess as desired.

6. Cool completely

Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour—or longer for a colder, more refreshing result.

7. Serve over ice

Fill glasses with crushed ice, pour in the tea, and optionally top each with a splash of additional evaporated milk for that iconic layered look.

✨ Tips for the Perfect Finish

• Adjust strength: Add another minute of simmer for a bolder tea flavor.

• Chill gently: Cooling slowly in the fridge preserves flavor better than rushing with ice.

• Serve stylishly: Use tall glasses and crushed ice to capture that classic café vibe.

... Read moreAs someone who absolutely adores Thai iced tea, finding that perfect balance of creamy sweetness and bold tea flavor has been a personal quest! While the basic recipe is fantastic, I wanted to share some extra tips and tricks I've picked up to really elevate your homemade ChaTraMue Thai Tea experience, especially since many of us are searching for the best way to use that classic red package tea mix. First off, why ChaTraMue? This brand is iconic for a reason! It's the original, offering that distinctive, slightly spiced, and incredibly rich flavor that makes Thai tea so unique. When you see that white and red package of tea mix, you know you're getting the authentic stuff. Many people often wonder if there's a secret, but honestly, it's about paying attention to a few details. Beyond the Basic Brew: My Pro Tips for Your Best Iced Thai Tea Water Quality Matters: Just like with coffee, the water you use can impact the taste. Filtered water will give you a cleaner, truer tea flavor, letting the ChaTraMue mix shine without any off-notes from tap water. Don't Over-Steep: The recipe mentions 4-5 minutes, and that's a sweet spot. Going much longer, especially with a rolling boil, can extract too much tannin, leading to a bitter taste. If you prefer a stronger tea without bitterness, try adding a little more of the tea mix rather than extending the steeping time significantly. Remember, we're aiming for that beautiful, dark orange color from the tea leaves themselves, not over-extraction. Sweetener Harmony: The original recipe uses sweetened condensed milk and optional sugar. I've found that adding the condensed milk while the tea is still warm helps it dissolve completely and integrate better, giving you a smoother, more consistent sweetness. For those who want to control sweetness or try alternatives, you can experiment with coconut sweetened condensed milk for a dairy-free option or reduce the sugar entirely if the condensed milk is sweet enough for you. The evaporated milk (or whole milk) is key for that creamy finish, so don't skip it! The Art of Chilling: This is crucial for a truly refreshing iced Thai tea. While adding ice directly can cool it down, it also dilutes the flavor. My secret? Brew a stronger concentrate, let it cool to room temperature, and then refrigerate it for at least 4 hours, or even overnight. This pre-chilling means your drink stays potent and delicious until the very last sip when poured over crushed ice. This is how you get that vibrant, distinctive orange-colored iced Thai tea that looks and tastes like it came from a cafe. Serving with Style: Crushed ice is a game-changer for iced Thai tea. It melts slower than cubes and provides a more pleasant texture. And for that iconic layered look, a little splash of additional evaporated milk or half-and-half poured gently over the top just before serving makes it picture-perfect! Customizing Your ChaTraMue Experience: Less Sweet? Gradually add condensed milk and sugar, tasting as you go. You can always add more, but you can't take it away! Dairy-Free? Replace evaporated milk with a creamy plant-based milk like oat milk or coconut milk. Just be aware it might slightly alter the flavor profile. Hot Thai Tea? While it's a summer drink staple, ChaTraMue tea mix also makes a fantastic hot beverage. Just follow the recipe, but skip the cooling/refrigeration step and serve warm. It’s comforting on a cooler day! Finding ChaTraMue tea mix is usually quite easy in Asian grocery stores or online. Once you have that distinctive packaging, you're all set to make batch after batch of this delightful beverage. Enjoy your perfectly crafted, homemade Thai tea!
