Disney Color By Number

Finished this color by number from: Coloriages mystères Disney - Les Grands classiques Tome 11!

Hercules was always my favorite Disney movie growing up, and for some reason Mount Olympus and the colors they chose always made me sooo happy. This was so nostalgic for me!

I scanned the double page image onto a sheet of 11x17 Strathmore Bristol 300 - my go-to paper to use Copic markers on! I reduced the opacity to 5%. These Disney adult color by number books are usually done will arcrylic paint pens or acrylic markers, but I wanted to use my alcohol markers so I did my best to reduce the opacity low enough you couldn't see the numbers. You can see them in some of the light areas, but it's close enough!

It was such a nice break to not have to choose a color palette or think too much for this project! 11x17 was the perfect size for the 2 page image - if I had gone smaller I would have run into issues using alcohol markers. The spaces are small!

I avoided blending and kept my lines harsh in order to give it the classic color by number look, and avoided using any shading or adding any additions to the page. I may go back and add some stars!

... Read moreIf you're a fan of Disney color by number books, you might find it rewarding to use alcohol markers like Copic for a vibrant finish. I chose a large 11x17 Strathmore Bristol 300 sheet to avoid bleeding and to accommodate the small numbered spaces precisely. One trick I discovered was reducing the scan opacity to about 5% to keep the numbers faint but still visible enough to guide me without distracting from the colors. For those who enjoy the nostalgic feeling of Disney classics like Lilo and Stitch or Mulan, these books are a wonderful way to relax without the stress of choosing your own palette. I recommend avoiding extensive blending to maintain the crisp, clean look that color by number artworks typically have. Instead, focus on bold lines and solid fills. Additionally, you might want to experiment with adding simple embellishments after coloring—for example, I’m considering some stars to add around Mount Olympus to enhance that magical Disney vibe further. Such personal touches can make the coloring experience even more enjoyable and unique. If you have access to Disney adult color by number books featuring characters like Stitch or other beloved figures, combining classic techniques with alcohol markers can transform your coloring sessions into a more vivid and creative escape.
