During my five-month period of unemployment, I made a conscious effort to keep myself engaged and motivated by setting small but meaningful goals. For example, I took a solo trip to Bangkok, which allowed me to gain confidence and embrace independence despite the uncertainties around my job situation. Another important aspect was maintaining strong connections with my family and friends. Attending Qingming to pay respects to my dad, catching up with sisters and cousins, and organizing outings with friends at favorite restaurants provided emotional support and a sense of belonging. It reminded me that life goes on and that nurturing relationships is crucial during tough times. Besides social activities, I prioritized my physical and mental health by committing to regular workouts. Exercise was my way of combating the laziness and isolation that sometimes accompany unemployment. Additionally, attending the FHA 2026 event and a marketing course in Johor Bahru kept me intellectually stimulated and helped me stay connected to industry trends. One takeaway from this experience is the importance of pushing yourself to go outside and engage with the world, even when it feels daunting. Gradually, these efforts helped me overcome nervousness and maintain a structured routine. Most rewarding of all was receiving a part-time job offer in a new industry — a sign that persistence and adaptability pay off. If you find yourself unemployed or facing career uncertainty, try embracing it as a phase of personal development rather than a setback. Explore new places, invest in relationships, stay active, and keep learning. These steps not only preserve your well-being but can open doors you didn’t expect, just like they did for me.

Counting down to last few weeks at work.
Honestly when I received news of my termination in last month, I didn’t feel anything even though I had plans to leave. Liberation? No, because my plan was cut short. My plan to expand my skills now diverted to what’s my next step from here. I’ve sent out resumes, now working on my portfolio. Mo
