Low PH shampoos ✨

The girls that get it…get it. But here’s why👇🏻

Your scalp has a natural pH of around 4.5-5.5, which creates a slightly acidic environment 🫧

This acidity helps keep your hair cuticles CLOSED to retain moisture & silkiness 💆🏼‍♀️

Minimizing the opening of your hair cuticles also helps color last longer in your hair (colored hair girlies wya??)

While high PH (6+) shampoos open up the cuticle leading to:

❌ dryness

❌ roughness

❌friction

To avoid opening your hair cuticles, aim for a shampoo with with a PH 5.5 or under 👌🏼

If you’re wondering where you can find a shampoo like this….the Hair Toss has a PH of 4.5 !!! 🤩

You can get yours on @amazon or link in bio! 💕

... Read moreOkay, let's talk about something that totally transformed my hair health: low pH shampoos! You might be wondering, 'Why should I even care about my shampoo's pH?' And trust me, I was once there too. But understanding this one little detail can unlock incredible benefits for your hair, just like it did for mine. Our scalp and hair have a natural acidic pH, typically hovering around 4.5 to 5.5. This slight acidity is super important because it helps keep your hair's outermost layer, the cuticle, smooth and closed. Think of your hair cuticles like tiny shingles on a roof; when they're lying flat and sealed, your hair looks shiny, feels silky, and is protected from damage. But here's the thing: many conventional shampoos are alkaline, meaning they have a higher pH (often 6 or above). While they might cleanse well, this higher pH can cause your hair cuticles to lift and open. This is where the problems start! Open cuticles lead to a whole host of issues I used to battle: Dryness: When cuticles are open, your hair loses moisture much faster, leaving it feeling parched and brittle. Roughness & Frizz: Those lifted cuticles snag on each other and the environment, creating that dreaded rough texture and frizz, regardless of how much conditioner you use. Color Fading: For all my colored hair girlies out there, an open cuticle is like an open door for your hair dye to escape! That beautiful color you just got? It'll wash out much quicker. Breakage: When your cuticles are constantly raised, your hair is more vulnerable to damage from styling, brushing, and environmental stressors, leading to increased breakage. Switching to a low pH shampoo (ideally 5.5 or under) actively helps to maintain that natural acidic balance. It works with your hair, not against it, to gently cleanse while keeping those cuticles happy and sealed. The benefits I've personally experienced are truly remarkable: First, shinier hair! When my cuticles are smooth, light reflects off my strands beautifully, giving me that glossy, healthy look I always dreamed of. Second, my color retention has dramatically improved. I can go longer between salon visits because my vibrant color stays locked in. Third, I've noticed significantly reduced breakage and frizz. My hair feels stronger and much more manageable, even on humid days. And finally, the moisture retention is a game-changer. My hair feels deeply hydrated and soft, not just on wash day, but consistently. So, how do you find one? Look for shampoos that explicitly state “pH balanced” or mention a specific low pH level on the label. Some brands are very transparent about their formulations. Incorporating a low pH shampoo into my routine has been one of the best decisions for my hair health, and I genuinely believe it can make a huge difference for yours too. It’s all about protecting those precious cuticles and letting your hair truly thrive!
