why I didn’t post this

#unfiltered Being means a lot of things. It means removing a filter from a photo. Or not even editing it in the first place. Let me tell you a secret: I am usually not my “best self” no, let me re-phrase I try and always be my best self but I can’t consistently achieve perfectionism. I try to achieve my “ideal self” but how exhausting. Authenticity is hard but it is so important. If I strive to be anything, it’s authentic and I hope that when a person meets me they speak of my genuine nature.

I have never posted there on social media because I didn’t get accepted into a program and my heart was shattered. (I also was embarasssed because of how my makeup looked and hair) I lost my ability to actualize that my life is not going to go the way I planned. And until recently I have struggled to find a reason to start my journey back to school. But after reflecting and learning about myself not just my ideal self but my true self I can confidently say I will continue to apply until I am in a PhD program for clinical psychology. And I’ll get in one day. Watch me!

🤔Cons:I found myself straying from my authenticity by using an app to correct my grammar.

👍Pros:I just want people to accept me as I am and if you would like to connect please reach out. I am always here for anyone!

... Read moreIn today's digital age, social media often pushes us towards idealized versions of ourselves, prompting many to struggle with authenticity. Many people face pressures to present a perfect image, yet embracing imperfections can lead to greater self-acceptance and mental well-being. In my case, the fear of judgment after not being accepted into a program held me back initially. However, understanding that vulnerability can be a strength is crucial. Sharing my true self not only helps me connect with others but also encourages them to be authentic. This journey isn’t just about pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology; it's about celebrating who I am and encouraging others to embrace their true selves, imperfections and all. Additionally, focusing on self-acceptance can significantly impact mental health. Engaging with like-minded individuals who also value authenticity can foster a supportive community. Online platforms, such as Lemon8, provide opportunities to connect with those who understand the struggle of living authentically in a curated world. As I continue to apply for academic programs, I seek to create a narrative that inspires others to prioritize their mental health, pursue their ambitions, and remain true to themselves despite societal pressures.
