What I Learned as a First Time Mom

It’s true what they say. You never know until you experience it for yourself. I honestly believe that phrase was brought to life by a mom because it couldn’t be more true.

I admire how much expecting moms prepare for the arrival of their little one. I mean there’s SO much to do. The biggest takeaway I learned after becoming a first time mom was that after all the preparation, I would be learning on the fly anyway.

All babies are different. Even if you have twins, they can be night and day from each other. You can’t do everything at once, and if you can, not all things will be done perfectly. Standards will be left to hang low for a while, and that’s okay. Bask in the slowness.

Take each day as it comes. Relish in all that you’re learning. Honor your body for what it created, and trust that you are making the absolute best decisions for you and your baby. You are their perfect fit 🤍

... Read moreAs a first-time mom, it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly playing catch-up, especially with all the advice out there. My journey really taught me that while preparation helps, the biggest lessons truly hit you after your little one arrives. It’s exactly like the original article says: you learn on the fly, and every baby is different. But what does that really look like day-to-day? One of the biggest struggles I faced, and I know many new moms can relate, was finding time for myself. The query "mother studying while baby sleeps" perfectly encapsulates this challenge. When your baby finally drifts off to sleep, it feels like a race against the clock. Should I clean? Eat? Shower? Or maybe, just maybe, catch up on a passion or even some work? I quickly learned that prioritizing my well-being, even for short bursts, was crucial. Sometimes, that meant letting the laundry pile up and instead, using that precious nap time to read a book, meditate for ten minutes, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee in silence. It’s not about doing everything; it’s about doing what recharges you so you can be the best mom possible. Remember to honor your body and mind, because they’ve done incredible work! The "new mom" journey is unique for everyone, but some feelings are universal. The overwhelming love, yes, but also the self-doubt, the exhaustion, and the constant feeling of not being enough. I found solace in connecting with other first-time moms who understood the unspoken struggles. Sharing stories about sleepless nights, unexpected baby quirks, or even just the joy of a new milestone made me feel less alone. It reinforced the idea that there's no single 'right' way to be a mom. Trusting your instincts, as the article beautifully puts it, becomes your superpower. You know your baby best, and that confidence grows stronger with each passing day. Embracing the chaos and letting go of perfection was a game-changer for me. I used to agonize over schedules and routines, but my baby had other plans! I learned to follow their cues, adapt, and understand that some days are just about survival, and that’s perfectly okay. Don't be afraid to ask for help, whether it's from your partner, family, or friends. Accepting support doesn't make you any less of a capable mom; it makes you a smart one. Every day is a new learning experience for both you and your little one, and that's the beautiful reality of being a new mom.
