The perfect SCREEN FREE Road Trip Toy

This little board is so simple, which is everything I love about it. I found it at Target for $10.99 and knew it would be perfect for my toddler to use while we are on our road trip to Florida.

It’s a dual sided drawing board. One side is a soft gel pad that kids can use their fingers to draw whatever they want. I thought this would be a fun sensory outlet to do since sitting in the car for so long can be boring 🥱

Flip the board over, and it’s a washable/erasable white board that your kid can draw with crayons on. I was skeptical of how well it would really erase the crayon, but it wiped off immediately with a tissue!

Seriously this is such a fun and inexpensive product if you’re looking to pass time.

... Read moreOkay, fellow parents, we've all been there: staring down a long car ride with a toddler and dreading the endless "Are we there yet?" or the inevitable screen-time battle. That's exactly why I was on a mission to find the BEST screen-free road trip toy that could actually keep my little one engaged. And let me tell you, finding that Crayola Double Doodle Board was an absolute game-changer! Seriously, this thing is genius. The soft gel pad side is fantastic for sensory play. My toddler loves squishing their fingers around, making patterns and shapes. It’s surprisingly calming for them, and it keeps their little hands busy without any mess. I've noticed it really helps with their fine motor skills too, as they try to "draw" specific things with their fingers. Then, when they need a change, we just flip it over to the white board with crayons. The fact that it wipes clean instantly with a tissue? Pure magic. No more scattered crayon bits or ruined car seats! It truly lives up to its claim as a "great toy for road trips." While the Crayola Double Doodle Board is my absolute go-to, I've learned that a little variety goes a long way on those extended journeys. So, here are a few other screen-free travel toy discoveries that have saved our sanity: Reusable Sticker Books: These are fantastic! They often have themed scenes where kids can place and re-place stickers again and again. They encourage storytelling and imagination, are perfectly quiet, and there are no tiny pieces to lose under the seat. Look for ones with puffy stickers for extra tactile fun. Water Wow! Books: If your child loves to "paint," these are a dream come true. You fill a special pen with water, and as they draw on the pages, colors appear. Once the water dries, the colors disappear, making them endlessly reusable and completely mess-free. They’re compact and satisfying for little artists. Small Fidget Toys or Pop-Its: Sometimes, kids just need something to occupy their hands. A simple pop-it or a small fidget spinner can provide that much-needed distraction, especially during moments of boredom or restlessness. They're quiet, easy to pack, and surprisingly effective. Magnetic Drawing Boards: Similar in concept to the whiteboard side of our Crayola board, but often with a different drawing mechanism (like a stylus with magnets). These offer another way for kids to doodle and erase, providing a fresh experience if they tire of crayons. Beyond specific toys, I've picked up a few road trip survival tips over the years. First, don't show all the toys at once! I like to have a bag of "new" toys (even if they're just old favorites they haven't seen in a while) and introduce them one by one. This creates mini-moments of excitement throughout the trip. Second, snacks are your co-pilot. Seriously, a well-timed snack can avert a meltdown faster than anything. Pack a variety of easy-to-eat, non-messy options. Finally, consider audio entertainment. While not a "toy," kid-friendly podcasts or audiobooks can be a fantastic screen-free way to pass the time and engage their imaginations without visual stimulation. Traveling with toddlers can be challenging, but with a good arsenal of screen-free activities like the Crayola Double Doodle Board and these other ideas, it becomes much more manageable. Here's to smoother, happier family adventures!
