I went to Italy and came back addicted to cannoli 🤦🏻‍♀️ this is helping me kick the craving and hit my protein goals.

This entire bowl of Italian Cannoli Dip has 44 grams of protein. Don’t skip the orange zest - it helps give that authentic flavour. I’ve also used orange extract and that works too, but I prefer the fresh zest.

Directions

... Read moreTransforming traditional desserts into healthier versions can be a game changer, especially when you want to indulge without derailing nutrition goals. I’ve personally experimented with various creamy dips to replace sugary snacks, and this Italian Cannoli Dip quickly became a favorite. The combination of ricotta and cottage cheese not only provides a delightful texture but also packs in a substantial amount of protein, making it ideal for post-workout recovery or afternoon energy boosts. In my experience, the freshness of the orange zest elevates the flavor profile authentically — nothing compares to that bright citrus note that cuts through the richness of the cheeses. While some use orange extract for convenience, I’ve found that zesting a fresh orange adds vibrant aroma and subtle complexity that really makes the dip special. The inclusion of sugar-free Jell-O pudding powder – either vanilla or cheesecake flavor – enhances the sweetness without adding unnecessary sugar, which is crucial for keeping the macros in check. One tip I found helpful is folding in mini dark chocolate chips just before serving. They provide small bursts of indulgence and a slight crunch that contrast beautifully with the creamy base. Chilling the dip for at least 30 minutes is a must; this step not only firms up the texture but also allows the flavors to meld together harmoniously. For serving, fresh fruits like strawberries or apple slices are my go-to accompaniments. They add natural sweetness and freshness, complementing the dip’s flavors perfectly while keeping the snack balanced and nutritious. If you’re someone who enjoys experimenting, try dipping crunchy biscotti or graham crackers for a satisfying twist that adds a bit of crunch. This recipe is a wonderful example of how craving a traditional favorite like cannoli can be met with a healthier alternative that supports dietary goals without compromising on taste. It’s quick to prepare, versatile, and especially rewarding when you need a sweet treat that’s also functional. I continue to recommend this dip to friends and family who want to enjoy Italian-inspired flavors with added protein and minimal guilt.
