Once your starting chain is ready, you can begin single crochet stitches (abbreviated "Sc"), which build upon the chain foundation. Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook, yarn over and pull through the chain to have two loops on your hook, then yarn over again and pull through both loops. This completes your first single crochet stitch. Continuing this way, single crochet presents a dense, sturdy stitch often used for beginner projects like scarves, dishcloths, and simple blankets. It’s normal to feel awkward at first, but consistent practice will improve your tension and speed. Using worsted weight yarn and a 6 mm crochet hook, as recommended by many beginner tutorials, is ideal to see your stitches clearly and control your work easily.
